My take: Romney and Pawlenty were asked first, but they backed out after Obama’s speech. They saw the writing on the wall, leaving McCain with no choice but to go all in with this pick.
If that didn’t happen, then Romney and Pawlenty got taken for a ride, not to mention all of the QUALIFIED Republicans who got passed over. Ridge, Kay Bailey, Snowe, etc. And you thought the Democrats were divided? Should make for an interesting convention.
Ferraro was also added as a hail mary pick. That didn’t pan out too well, and if history is any indication, this pick won’t either.
