Most churches offer food, utilities and rent assistance for low income people. Also most churches I know of don’t require you attend in order to get assistance for food.
We have a friend that is a single mother with three kids and her husband left her when youngest kid was 2. He quit his job and met some 20 something moved away and has never paid any children support.
Even with her dire situation she has always been to proud to receive food and assistance. Which has amazed me they live in a one bedroom, she attends college and works part time. Just crazy how many people are in this kind of situation! It really sucks!!
I would also not send a check but give a gift card.
