When I bought my laptop late last year I did a price comparison for a Mac Book Pro versus a Thinkpad. The thinkpad came out about $500 cheaper for the exact same configuration.

thinkpads are no longer made by ibm. They are now made by lenovo. And fit/finish reliability has been subpar since the t-60.
