Let’s look at a statement that Doug Wead, a RP advisor, said in this video.
He stated that the GOP changed the rules to benefit Mitt Romney since “Florida was moved up because it was a state that would help him, Nevada and Arizona were moved up because they were states with large LDS population…”
Let’s do a fact check, shall we?
2008 Republican primary dates and order:
1/3 Iowa
1/5 Wyoming
1/8 New Hampshire
1/15 Michigan
1/19 Nevada
1/19 South Carolina
1/22 Louisiana
1/25 Hawaii
1/29 Florida
1/1 Maine
2/5 Arizona and 20 other states
2012 Republican primary dates and order:
1/3 Iowa
1/10 New Hampshire
1/21 South Carolina
1/31 Florida
2/4 Nevada
2/7 Colorado
2/7 Minnesota
2/7 Missouri
2/11 Maine
2/28 Arizona
2/28 Michigan
Was Nevada moved up?
NO – datewise (was 1/19 in 2008, was 2/4 in 2012)
NO – orderwise (was 5th in 2008, was 5th in 2012)
Was Arizona moved up?
NO – datewise (was 2/5 in 2008, will be 2/28 in 2012)
YES – orderwise(was 11th in 2008 with 20 other states, will be 10th in 2009)
Was Florida moved up?
NO – datewise (was 1/29 in 2008, was 1/31 in 2012)
YES – orderwise(was 9th in 2008, was 4th in 2012)
He either flat-out lied or did not know what he was talking about, as my fact check shows he was only 0% or 67% right, depending on whether he was referring to dates or order of primaries.
I find that RP and his staff are really fond of crying foul and thinking the world is against them. Personally, I would not want an administration like that in the White House.
Not that it keeps me up at night, since it is never gonna happen anyway.
