Larry: Core Republican beliefs are NOT the same as those of the current Administration.
I said quite clearly that I wasn’t a fan of pushing religion down anyone’s throat and did NOT equate religion with spirituality.
You, on the other hand, immediately revert to the Leftist playbook and start putting words into my mouth or pushing strawman arguments of your own.
I am against torture (and have argued vociferously so on another thread), against rendition and don’t support the notion of an American Empire. I am against the Patriot Act, and against FISA, as well as programs like the NSA’s Echelon and Carnivore programs.
As far as marriage goes: That’s the province of religion and not government. If two people love each other and want to be together, and the government feels that they need to be involved, then they should sanction a civil union, regardless of the gender(s) of the parties. A conveniently exploited wedge issue that deflects attention from larger and more important issues like the economy, education and the war in Iraq.
“Forcing women to have children against their will”. Yup, do this on a daily basis. Along with my side job in the brigandage business, I frequently cause women to have children against their will. God Almighty, where, exactly, do you come up with this stuff? Do you really believe that every conservative out there is some sort of slavering, war mongering Neanderthal? Have you been propagandized to that point? Or is just easier to shout epithets, tell lies and avoid any real discussion on the issues?
I’d be curious to hear your thoughts, and what your core beliefs are. You’ve apparently divined mine, or so you would imply; I’d like to hear yours.
