One potential huge problem I’ve just find out is that i have to worry about potential mold problem. This means I get the plumber (me) service but also need to get the mold test.
What a mess. I poked a hole in the ceiling today easily but I don’t see much since it’s already dark. I will basically saw a large area to see, what a mess.
I am considering the plumber now. Will see.[/quote]
before you rip out all the drywall, perhaps you can see if you can borrow a fiber-optics scope camera…You can ask around hardware stores, garages, auto-parts store to see if they have a loaner you can borrow or rent….
Something like this….
Technology is your friend 🙂
If I were in your shoes, I’d purchase one because I know I would have a use for it somewhere else…You call the plumber, he’ll probably charge $100 just to show up, lete alone do any actual repair work…Then again, I’m known for finding any excuse to add to my tool collection 🙂
Imho mold issues are overrated in san diego…. Unless the drywall was soaked in standing water for a long time, I don’t think you really will have *that* much of a mold issue, because in SD it’s pretty dry…. You probably have the same amount of mold if you have bad caulking on a tub/shower and the water runs into the cracks/etc….You’re not going to ripping out an entire shower/tub over that imho……If you’re overly concerned about it, and if you find you don’t need to rip out the drywall otherwise, go buy yourself one of those pressurized bug sprayers, mix 1/2 water with 1/2 bleach…Drill a small hole in your drywall and spray upwards toward the celling so that the bleach+water falls downward to the drywall… Don’t completely soak the area, but get it nice a damp with bleach and water…Drill a small 3/4″ diameter hole, stick a funnel into the hole and turn on a fan that blows air into the hole for a 3-4 days so the bleach+water thing can dry.
Getto? Yes… But hey, I’m kinda that getto kinda of person….
The only thing you *might* want to consider hiring a person to do things is IF your house is so old, that you think the ceiling might have asbestos in it.
