I would ask your dentist why he wants to do the bone graft? Basically when you pull a tooth, the bone has to fill back in and tends to condense/shrink up. If you are missing teeth on that side, it is usually good to have a bone graft if you are having a denture placed or an implant placed. Bone graft is just fill in bone.
I see no need to bone graft for wisdom teeth extractions. I did not have bone grafts when mine were removed. Take this for what you are paying me but I am a dentist. I do wisdom teeth extractions all the time and have not done a bone graft yet. Again, I do bone grafts for implant placement or denture stabilization. Is your tooth completely impacted and covered by bone or just soft tissue? Also, dry socket is prevented by not busting up the clot that forms over the bone. No spitting, smoking, or sucking through a straw for 48 hours. Infections are prevented by the same way. As long as he is using sterile techniques you should be fine.
