I’ve got this theory that there is no bad music – just music that you haven’t been in the right situation or place in your life to understand yet.
I could name two dozen bands who I’ve had a religious experience with at the right point in time, ranging from Neil Young (“Natural Beauty”), Ben Folds Five (many songs), Head East (“Never Been Any Reason”), Grand Funk (“Gimme Shelter”), Nirvana (many), Kid Rock. The latest was the Nora Jones song “Don’t know why”…I had just installed new speakers and at about 1 AM a few weeks ago in our darkened music room, listened to that song. It brought me to tears, much to my surprise.
Music has an absolutely astounding power to stir emotion in me.
