It’s not just Chinese that are supersticious. We were given a nice set of cooking knives as a wedding gift and my husband and his family freaked. Apparently Sicilians don’t think it’s a good idea to give sharp stuff as a wedding gift.
We still have (and use) the knives and are still married… so far no bad luck from it.
