It was stupendous yet not unexpected. Consider the following breaks the Chargers got in the first half. A muffed bunt where the broncos blocker pushes the charger cover guy into the punt returner who had called a fair catch. Then a bizarre bounce on a kickoff, followed by the mother of all of them, a bronco receiver streaking to a touch down who then tripped over the 40 yard line.
My prediction for the loss came on the following play, in the 3rd quarter after the ponies scored, Rivers has a wide open Dante Rosario 40 yards downfield and throws completely to the wrong side of him.
This one was pretty predictable. It is pretty easy to see Rivers throws off his back foot most of the time. Cornerbacks with trailing techniques are picking him off easily for the past 2 seasons. Most of his deep balls are well underthrown, and alot of the Chargers offense actually relies on back shoulder plays to the sidelines.
As for the defense it was not a surprise. At least Pagano tries to throw a 5th or 6th man on the blitz fairly often. When you don’t have a great pash rush and don’t have corners who can play man to man then you are pretty screwed and are resigned to have to take alot more chances. If you look at a few of the ints that phil threw last night that were more downfield, each time he had a short pass open but passed on it.
The only good thing about last night was I put money on the ponies…
