It probably will vary depending on what you include in a “whole house” remodel. Here is what we did to a 3000 sf house 4 years ago:
– New top of the line carpet throughout
– Refinished wood floors throughout
– New tile floors throughout
– Three remodeled bathrooms (new tub, toilet, sink, tile, granite countertops, faucets, refinished cabinets)
– Remodeled kitchen (new granite countertops – 3 slabs, new sink, new cooktop, new double-oven, new fridge, new dw, new micro, new faucet, refinished cabinets) Appliances are Bosch and Viking, sink is Franke
– New paint throughout with many sheetrock patches
– New baseboards throughout
– New ceiling fans
– New light fixtures where appropriate
– New window film/tint throughout
– New window coverings throughout
Total bill was about $50-60K and we did none of the work ourselves. If you are going to add new cabinets, the bill will go up. But I’m not sure what else you would include that we didn’t do. Virtually every surface we touch or see is new.
And no, we didn’t move out. We did the house a section at a time. Yes it was stressful and yes we did come home to a house full of dust a few days, but not many. Just seal everything up by wrapping it in plastic.
And we chose to go this route because we found the perfect layout on the perfect lot at the perfect location. Or darn near perfect anyway. While we would have preferred to not remodel, we think it worked out well because we now have a house exactly the way we want it. Can’t beat that feeling.
