In california, it is not a topic to be taken lightly.
I’m a habitual do-it-yourselfer but I paid an attorney $1300 to do this for me and I couldn’t be happier about it. This included a will, HIPA docs, incompetencey demands, life-support demands, trust, child guardianship, all the docs I need to transfer accounts and assets to the trust and probably a couple other things I forget.
Even if you do it yourself, I suggest going to one of those free workshops offered by the lawyers. They are pretty helpful. I went to these guys and their class was great:
