I’d recommend a Subaru as well. Either the Forester or the Outback. I have a ’99 Outback with nearly 200k miles. So far I have had to replace one bearing and an alternator. The AWD is excellent. I’ve driven in snow, ice, sand, and mud without issue. There’s plenty of room inside, and if you really need it, you can put 300 lbs on the roof rack. There are even accessories that will turn the cargo area into a kennel for your dogs. Definitely take a look at them before you make your decision.
