I was really surprised when I looked at “slide-in” ranges online this morning when JP mentioned she wanted to replace the one in the house she just bought. I had thought of them as something you would install in a low-income rental unit – for tenants or in a mobile home. But the new ones look much fancier than that and have nice gas rangetop and even two drawers. The new ones are far more aesthetically pleasing (and nicer) than the old ones.
I would still prefer a built-in cooktop and built-in 30″ wall oven installed below. (This configuration will not work with a downdraft cooktop.) I have had the eye-level ovens in other houses but they were only 26″-28″ and both were too small to cook a large turkey in. I really prefer a built-in look in both the kitchen and bathrooms (no pedestal or freestanding sinks).
Your freestanding (European?) range looks interesting, UCGal! Good luck on your refacing job. Sounds like you will update your kitchen!
