I never posted my comments about the Ghost Pines Merlot because a bunch of people already did and I’ll echo most of their comments.
But, I seem to be pretty fickle when it comes to wines. I took the Ghost Pines to a party a couple of weeks ago. I only got one glass, and enjoyed it but couldn’t truly appreciate it. I didn’t have the right combination of glass/food/state of mind/etc. to truly appreciate it. I opened the 2nd bottle a couple of days later. Nice wine. More sediment than I’m used to, but definitely not a bad thing.
Even more interesting, I had a glass of the Menage a Trois after having a glass of the Ghost Pines. I’m not quite the fan of Menage that I was before. It’s too sweet. I’m not sure why I didn’t notice that before. I tried another glass of it tonight, same result. It’s more like a desert wine.
Some friends took me to Flemings tonight and they brought wine with them. One was a “Malbec” called Aguaribay. Some kind of Argentinian wine I think. That sure was tasty in those nice big wine glasses and a medium-rare filet. Never had that kind of wine before but I liked it. She said it was $8.99 at Costco. For that money it’s definitely worth a try, and I’d pick up another bottle.
