I just checked some wine blogs, we are late to this party, they’ve been talking about it since November 29th and most retailers have been out of it for a week, including big time online guys like k&l wines. The winery itself is sold out as well. Save one for me, we can work a trade, everything with the exception of sexual favors is on the table. I’ve got some 1997 declared vintage port that was crushed by foot that cannot be found for sale, it’s the kind of stuff that makes you want to light a cigar and don some depends, so you can just soil yourself and avoid the distraction of a restroom break. That might be worth a trade for a washington fluke. I’ll let you know, I will hit costco prior to putting up a “depends” bottle.
I worry about our hedonistic hobby, there is so much suffering in the world and here we get all giddy over grape juice. I’m not worried about me, per se, just the masses that read this stuff, are we doing them a diservice. Then of course I remember so many great people and their thoughts on wine, and all is forgiven.
“He who loves not wine, women and song remains a fool his whole life long ”
Johann Heinrich Voss
“Wine is the most civilized thing in the world.”
Ernest Hemingway.
“I drink champagne when I win, to celebrate
… and I drink champagne when I lose to console myself.”
Napoleon (this one is for aecitia)
“Wine in itself is an excellent thing.”
Pope Pius XII Airen
“I have lived temperately … I double the doctor’s recommendation
of a glass and a half of wine a day and even treble it with a friend.” Thomas Jefferson
Without Thomas, we would not be here enjoying these freedoms to post, so to you Thomas, I toast to trebling it.
