I had Cox internet and hated it. I went with AT&T and haven’t looked back.
1.) When it worked, my Cox internet speed varied from 4 – 12 MBS (I paid for 18)
2.) Customer service was a joke.
3.) At the time, they didn’t offer a combined modem/router
My problem was that it became obvious Cox has way too many customers on their system without enough infrastructure. My modem kept crashing because there wasn’t enough signal gain. If it was late at night or other off peak times, it worked ok, but during the day, and especially in the early evenings, my modem would get dropped. If there was a popular game on or some other big HD TV event, then I couldn’t get on the internet at all. When I called customer service they kept telling me that I had a bad splitter somewhere even after I plugged the line coming into the house directly into the modem. I finally dropped their service all together and went with AT&T DSL. I pay for 12 MBS, and every speed test I have run shows 11.9 or so, and it NEVER crashes. If I was in a Time Warner area, I would think about switching, but I’ll never sign up for Cox internet again.
Admittedly though, I haven’t had to deal with AT&T’s customer service.
