I am not really worried about this at all. This isnt 1918. We have anti-biotics, (for the secondary effects) which they didnt. We have tamaflu, which is effective against this strain most likly because this strain comes from poor areas of Mexico and most likely has never been exposed to anti-virals. We have a far better understanding of general hygene which they didnt have either. Most people are not dying of this, even in Mexico.
I would be MUCH more worried about a disease popping up in a more first world country. Our overuse of Antibiotics and Anti-virals leads diseases to become resistant to these drugs. A virulant stain that is resistant to our front line medications is much more of a threat than this one.
Plus, in a kinda sick positive, remember that very deadly virus’s are BAD virus’s from an evolutionary standpoint. They tend to burn out quick, they kill too fast especially in todays world where we understand what we are upagainst.
Also, just to repeat it, you wont get swine flu from eating pork. Just cook it and you will be fine. Enfluenza is a respiratory disease, it needs warm moist transmission to work. Avoid eating freshly killed pig lung from Mexico and itll all be good.
