TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — American Honda said today its April U.S. auto sales rose as higher demand for the automaker's small cars offset a drop in sales of light trucks.
Honda sold 135,180 vehicles in April, up 6.9 percent from 126,419 in April 2007.
Car sales jumped 16 percent as demand for the Accord rose 19.7 percent and sales of the Civic rose 17.2 percent.
Sales of light trucks fell 4.8 percent as demand for the Alabama-built Pilot dropped 30.9 percent and sales of the Element fell 14.9 percent.
So far this year, Honda sales are up 1.5 percent from the same period of 2007.
Honda's U.S. shares fell 13 cents to $32.97 in midday trading.
Sorry, i should have clarified. I was speaking in context to the $30-40k car market, as was the approximate range of buyers who spend this much on "luxury" cars and/or SUVs. Honda's Acura brand is deeply in trouble. There is no competitive story here. RL is a disaster, TSX sales are in trouble and the new release is lukewarm, and TL sales aren't doing so great either. Sales down 16% from 1 yr. That's bad for a luxury brand, because if the image doesn't shape up, it's going to get a lot worse.
They are better off closing that brand imho or going upscale.
Regarding the accident involving the red civic in Torrey Highland. What happened was actually two events
1) Red civic riceboy was trying to "drift" the car and was traveling excessive speed down Torrey Santa Fe Roadclose to 90mph while entering an apex to initiate the drift. Idiot riceboy (sorry, this guy was an idiot), obviously loses control of his car and "drifts" into an oncoming car (Lexus).
2)Minutes later, a driver DUI driving I believe a toyota camry plows into the existing wreckage.
That's how it happened. And I (had) pictures of the aftermath.
