Although I find it distasteful, I don’t think it is necessarily immoral to passively bet on someone’s demise who is in the public arena. Especially if it is the only means available to hedge their bets to prevent loss from said demise (eg similar to life insurance for key employees).
Also, those who have 401k accounts which own stock in defense contractors are indirectly profiting from death (not to mention the misery that some of the “sin” stocks impart)…
