Eavesdropper: Well, it sounds as though you have the situation well in hand. However, you might mention you’ve been doing some research and have familiarized yourself with the “Colombian Necktie” and then give him an evil, knowing grin.
In counterinsurgency warfare (my speciality in the Army), there is an expression, “Pour encourager les autres” (to encourage the others). Dropping little hints like this one accomplishes that quite handily, believe me.
