Do forums that have that feature tend to retain the higher ranking posters and self select out the low ones?

There seems to be a natural life to forum posters in general not just here. People come and go.

Or, would a bit of moderation be helpful? I know, who has time for that;)

I would like a way to vote for a temp ban on members when posts turn personal or foul language. 3 strikes idea.
