Chet Atkins aka “Mr Guitar” was an amazing player, he popularized the alternating bass style with the thumbpick playing bass and the other fingers playing melody at the same time (which was pioneered by the likes of Merle Travis of course)..one of my favs is him playing Mr. Sandman:
