This is what we subject our daughters to when we focus on appearance rather than health. I don’t like the word “fat” because it’s understood to refer to one’s appearance, not one’s level of fitness. If we’re concerned about health trends, we should use the terms “fit” or “unfit” instead.
Of course you bring up the extreme examples. Trust me, AN can produce some real extremes on the other end in a heart beat.
The medical community has drawn the line on obesity at BMI of 30 for Caucasians, BMI of 33 for blacks, and BMI of 27 for Asians. If you are above these numbers, statistically speaking you will eventually lose the war against metabolic syndrome, period. Appearance or otherwise.
