BTW, La Jolla is the definition of upscale, and is supposed to be rat-central. Lots of foliage for nesting, maybe? And gourmet trash?
I’ve trapped 3 rats in my La Jolla Shores patio in the past 6 months. (By far the most prolific trapping season I’ve ever had) They were eating tomatoes right off the plants in my garden. I’ll bet they’ve found their way into the garage on occasion as well.
I’ve lived in SD area for over 10 years and never lived more than 7 blocks to the ocean- from Mission Beach to Encinitas and we’ve always seen the occasional rat or mouse nosing around the outside of the house, garden, under the deck… This year there seem to be more than usual, don’t know if there’s something with the weather or what….
We keep a clean place and only 1 time (8 yrs ago) have had one inside the house. I just chalk it up to the price of living in paradise and(to keep remotely on topic) my wife and I would never dream of calling the landlord for a rodent every few years…
