And both the Dems and the GOP know it. However, neither side will admit it, because that will mean breaking some very hard truths to the voters.
So, the GOP will vociferously oppose any new taxes and the Dems will play the “They’re pushing Granny off a cliff!” game (which played very well in NY-26, BTW) and the bullshit will continue.
Both parties have stopped effectively governing and now just focus on getting re-elected, while kicking the can further and further down the road.
Could it be because the voters don’t want to hear the truth?
The voters of NY-26 switched from Republican to Democrat because they are worried about their own social benefits.
Brian: They absolutely don’t want to hear the truth. Or, more correctly, they don’t want that part of the government whose benefits they enjoy eliminated.
So, you’re now going to see the GOP struggling with whether or not to be honest with that core group of older, white voters in their base about Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid or pander for the votes, knowing that the Dems will be beating the crap out of “Paul Ryan is planning on killing Granny with an axe!”.
On a positive note, this will expose the Dems as being just as craven and cowardly as the GOP and you’ll finally have to admit that they’re also a bunch of venal, corrupt, vote-grabbing douchebags, too.
