Brian: I disagree with this. This shows why the government needs to get out of the business of picking winners and losers and instead fund the R&D effort that will uncover market drivers.
Obama stood in front of Solyndra and touted them as a “winner”, even after PriceWaterhouseCoopers indicated that they had doubts that Solyndra could survive as a going concern. When it costs $6 to make an item, and you sell it for $3… You get the picture.
I hear repeatedly about the GOP being “anti-science” and while people like Michelle Bachmann certainly fall into that camp, its also a false narrative regarding those on the right that do not. It also omits the fact that there are many on the Left who treat AGW/Climate Change as revealed truth and “settled science” and will brook no argument on the topic. In terms of empiricism and objectivity, there is NO SUCH THING as “settled science” and never will be.
The furor at IPCC over the NASA and CERN findings illustrates how overly politicized this whole process has become.
Which ties directly back to why government should not be in the business of pushing any agenda, save the one that objectively determines the commercial viability of the product through open, objective research and development and then exits it into the marketplace.
