Just another vent about Chase — this time about their credit card.
I never carry a balance, just use the card for the rewards and such and pay it off every month. . .
JC, I have an older Chase Rewards card (formerly Capital One) that I just use for rewards as well (pay it off at EOM).
I just got a letter from them last week that they are “converting” my card to a Chase “Freedom” card (apparently same terms and conds, existing reward points carry over and no annual fee). I am supposed to expect the new card soon, activate it and cut up my old one.
We shall see when it comes in if it is REALLY the same T & C’s as the old one.
I really fear ALL CC’s will soon go to an annual fee of =>$59 because they can’t make fees upon fees anymore due to new legislation and are looking for more ways to profit from scumbags who pay their cards off every mo.
This is sad because EVERYONE needs at least one CC, (to fly in an emergency, book a hotel and rent a car, if nothing else). Consumers shouldn’t have to pay an annual fee if they use their card too minimally to qualify for any rewards.
I think American Express LOVES scumbags like me. I am an easy, no risk cash cow. Have you ever wondered why some merchants refuse to take American Express? I tell you why Amex charges the merchant $2.25 each time you swipe one of their cards and that goes for returns too. Personally, I think I deserve a better cut of that than that crappy 1 to 3% reward.
