Lawrance and essence of style
Yes flu, being the “mid-century” buff that I am, I LOVE the Lawrance showroom in Hillcrest. But, to get this stuff at a “semi-affordable” price, you have to shop their semi-annual clearance sales and purchase the floor models!
….or negotiate hard. I’ve gotten up to 46% off on non-floor sample stuff. It’s furniture retail, afterall…You want to talk about a retail sector hard hit with the recession, look no further. And you would be amazed how much of these places use to depend on people who depend on credit.
For slightly less expensive, yet still contemporary
Plumbers (stay away from the particle board furniture)
Note: I’m not a big fan of leather…Most of my stuff is microfiber or glass (guess I feel bad about the cows)…Even my cars I have pleather versus leather. For practical reasons, I also found glass office tables hold up better than wood (which chips/scratches easily), especially with my abuse of throwing moving crap on it and off all the time…The drawback is that I get to see all my cables dangling over the place and my ugly feet….Found this thing at Lawrance. Wasn’t the most attractive, but it gets the job done…Got a pretty decent price too. Probably held up better than if I got a real wood table. I know, looks ikea’ish… Oh well..
(Also, yes yes,. it’s been 5 years since I cleaned this room…Pack rat am I. Not gonna show you the other side of the room with all the stacked boxes and crap…Apple IIe anyone?)
