But looks like I won’t be going back there for tires again, either for my X5 or the 550, and they don’t stock the tires I like the miata or the A4 the C320 for which I don’t care about the rims….

A bit of advice. It’s hard trying to be pretentious but one of the rules (in the top 15) of the pretentious handbook is to never admit you shop at Costco, you are just too good for that!
Remember what the coach told you to repeat when you are in these serious situations like this “people like me”.
I actually like costco for everything else. Generally, really good service. I don’t care whether it’s hip or not….And frankly I could care less about car brands or labels, though I admit lots of people buy cars for no real value but the label…
But, as a business, if you’re going to advertise that you can do job X (like changing tires), the assumption here is you can do so without damaging customer rims…It’s really not that hard….
Or if costco simply would have said “sorry, we don’t work on cars with alloy wheels that will scratch with our tools/mounting service”…That’s fine too. I would go elsewhere that would most likely price match costco’s prices anyway. Or I would have bought the tires, and mounted them elsewhere… Probably should have done so, but I thought it would be convenient…
Apparently not…
