As someone who loves food myself, I e-mailed my Chinese friend (who is a gourmet) about Dintaifung.
Here’s what he said:
This restaurant was raved about in a New York paper, and then it appeared in Singapore several years ago, and established 2 more outlets. It is highly over-rated.
It is not cheap, but lots of people line up to get in.
I don’t like it because the taste of the dumplings is very porky — I dislike pork, but will bear with it if it’s very mild or camouflaged like sweet meat. For me, fine dining should not have strong pork smell, but that’s what Dintaifung offers. My friend who is a food connoiseur and chef in Singapore did not like it either. There are better places in Singapore, HK, and Taipei.
