Arraya: I read “Methland”, its a good book. You’ve hit on the one aspect that’s gone undiscussed on this thread, and that is the issue of class.
Americans are terrified of race, especially if it means being hit with the word “racist”. We’ve been beaten over the head with the Political Correctness baton for so long, we’re afraid to have an honest discussion on the topic.
Left unsaid is the contention that class is and has been a larger issue in this country than race. When tax breaks for the richest 1% are discussed, we’re not talking about race (although, admittedly, I’m sure the largest percentage of that class is white), we’re talking about class. And, the divisions between classes, especially the rich and everyone else, continue to grow ever larger. In truth, I’m not even sure there is a true, functioning middle class in this country anymore.
