Aren’t you exaggerating a bit? Common charges and property taxes in SD are still pretty low. What’s wrong with a two or three bedroom condo? Come to think of it, I saw a 3-bedroom house with 1 bedroom guest cottage (rental income) in back for just north of $400k recently in a pretty good area.
