Arraya: While there is a fundamentalist/Orthodox faction operating in Israel’s IDF and Knesset (and is especially strong in the occupied territories and settlements), you should be careful about labeling all Israelis or IDF or Mossad as extremist.
I’ve done projects with and for Israel’s Home Front Command (their version of Dept. of Homeland Security) and these folks are as professional as it gets. You don’t find ideological or religious extremists, what you find are intelligence and military professionals trying to protect Israel from Hamas, Hezbollah, the Syrians and Iranians. The threats are very real and coming from, as you call them, “scary” people.
As I penned above, this is a complex situation, with nutbags on all sides, including ours. However, to say that the entire State of Israel is given over to ethnic cleansing isn’t true and the average Israeli is as concerned about Netanyahu as you are.
The PLO Charter clearly states that the destruction of the State of Israel is one of its prime mandates. Iran feels the same way, as do senior members in the governments of Saudi, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan, etc, etc, etc.
Which is to merely repeat that fundamentalist anything is dangerous.
Allan, I don’t paint any one group as anything. I just point out forces. Israel by it’s nature was considered prophecy by the zionist movement back in the 40s. The european jews that fled persecution were hardened and clung to their religion because of such. Cause and effect.
Truman was a christian zionist, being is that he believed they should have that land according to the bible.
The whole region is steeped IMO, icky religious fundamentalism and they feed off each other. The crazier one side gets the more insane the other gets.
