Josh, next to top left hinge and on the lower part of the door, is that wood filler/putty or just paint? If it’s wood filler/putty, it might be hiding some imperfection in the door. That could be an issue if you plan on just staining the door. I’d get a small pick and pick off some of that fto see how deep it goes before doing any additional work. If it goes too deep, you might reevaluate whether to stain the door versus paint.
