Automated ma deuces sound like they’d be awesome to witness. You’d need low light rather than thermal since zombies probably emerge the water at around ocean temperature.
Can it be calibrated to shoot high? Unless it’s scoring headshots, it’d have to tear the zombie apart to get it to stop, which could be ammo spendy. If spare manpower is available, having a shift guard in a tower with a reasonable caliber bolt-action (Mosin Nagant?) would be a lot cheaper (.50 BMG is what, $3+ a round commercially?)
8bit: I think we could probably do better than a 70 year old Russian bolt action, couldn’t we? Sheesh, even an M1 Garand would be preferable.
Ammo for the M2 is pricey, hence my plan to raid CampPen and heist a couple of Conex containers full of ammo. Come to think of it, if we boost some 7.62mm NATO, we could set your guard up with a nice scoped bolt action.
As far as thermal versus lowlight: We could use black or white light scopes for the zombies. Good catch on the no thermal signature issue.
