$59.99 is the low end:
“The $59.99 monthly plan includes 450 minutes of voice time; a $79.99 plan includes 900 minutes; and a $99.99 plan includes 1,350 minutes. All three offer 200 text messages, unlimited data services, minutes that roll over month-to-month and mobile-to-mobile calls. There also is a $36 activation fee.”
I’m not getting one.
On a more upbeat tone, I read they sold 525,000 of them this weekend. At $500 a pop, we the collective consumer spent a quarter billion dollars on this one product over the last few days. Is this some sort of record? I think it might be.

July 2, 2007 at 12:50 PM #63355no_such_realityParticipantThe LA Times had a great article on the iPhone lines
And of course the expose of who is really waiting. Err, I mean brown nosing with a phone. Or worse, assigned like a lackey to go get a phone.
In the words of one line waiter: “I feel kind of lame,” he said. “I hate the iPhone right now.”
Maybe it’s the beginning of the end and people will slowly realize “hip” and “cool” aren’t mass produced. Nor is it buyable.

July 2, 2007 at 1:27 PM #63371CardiffBaseballParticipantI got in on SERO for friends of Sprint Employees. $30/month gets you 500 anytime minutes and free nights starts at 7:00 instead of 9:00. Perfect for the kids.
Also free text messaging (unlimited) and free data or internet browsing. So while iPhone is all the rage, this deal is pretty practical for kids. Even got one for the wife.

July 2, 2007 at 2:47 PM #63389CoronitaParticipantRead in USA Today that some people were disappointed that they couldn't get iPhone because of a lack of coverage. These are young people, college students, who want this $499/$599 + $59.99/month for 2 years. No wonder they are deep in debt when they graduate. So any piggingtonian getting iPhone? Maybe one day when Apple fails to excite, we know that consumer is guarding its wallet…
Nope. Got to save up because I "need" that Audi RS6 due out next year. Screw the Jones down the street. They’re broke. I need to compete with the Kim's down the street π Just kidding.
Seriously though. Seems like the the concept of "needs" versus "wants" seems to has escaped a few folks. I can't complain though, because my apple stock is 3x above want I bought a few years ago. Time to sell though.

July 2, 2007 at 5:12 PM #63427AnonymousGuestCB, you, obviously, have not been taken to the woodshed by your spouse; mine made it very clear to me, early on, that I was to refer to her as ‘My wife,’ not ‘The wife.’ And, I have obeyed.

July 3, 2007 at 12:17 AM #63582cashmanParticipantI bought two of them, one for each hand. Seriously, I waiting in line for three hours on Friday and bought one for a friend, and one for me. Worth every penny and minute in line. It’s truly a revolutionary device. As usual, Apple has done it better than the competition, in design and function. I bought one of the first iPods when it came out. People thought I was crazy to spend $300 on an MP3 player. I simply replied, if you want the best you have to pay extra, just like most things in life. Doesn’t it cost more to live on the coast versus living in Temecula? Sure it does. Don’t under estimate the iPhone and the genius of Steve Jobs. And I wouldn’t be selling your AAPL stock yet. Wait until next month when earnings come out and they probably announce a stock split.

It is amazing. I would say it the funnest toy I think I’ve ever received. I had a Blackberry previous to this and it just blows it away in every way. Like all Apple products its fun, intuitive, and perfect in every way. I told my wife I don’t need her anymore. She agreed since she got one too.
