Harveston is probably the best location for being “close to everything” in Temecula. But, notice I said “in Temecula”. Temecula itself is a pretty small exurb of San Diego and you’ll face long drives in traffic if you want to get to things like beaches, museums, airports, or big-city type cultural attractions.
Even Harveston isn’t really very walkable – only within the subdivision. If you want to walk to the nearby Starbucks, there’s no direct way to walk there – you have to walk all the way out to a main street and then cut through the parking lots dodging cars. It’s like the people that planned out this area owned a lot of stock in Goodyear, GM, and Exxon. No neighborhood in Temecula is truly “close to everything” although some would have buyers believe they are.

June 4, 2007 at 12:44 PM #56437wwParticipantI hear you. I guess it’s a much better version of the exurban environment where I live in AZ.
I’d love nothing more than to live in an urban environment, but I can’t quite get used to the idea of living in a condo in the city of San Diego, for example. Seems like when you have kids you don’t have a lot of options but to live in the exurbs, unless you have tons of $$ to send them to private schools.
Are there any really good options in San Diego, where you can live in an attached home, for example, but in a great neighborhood that’s still close to everything? I like smaller homes, but some of the older neighborhoods in San Diego, for example, just look sort of dumpy to me, to be honest.

June 4, 2007 at 1:11 PM #56449mydogsarelazyParticipantWe live in Murrieta, and from my point of view, Harveston is very well situated, and well maintained. We have young children and often take them to the park there. The Winchester Rd. offramp — the main way in and out of Harveston — is a real problem but in maybe 2 years another ramp is planned.
There are lot of businesses now along Hwy 79, so that area is worth checking out. We used to live in Bridlevale (behind Wolf Creek) and liked our neighbors and neigborhood.

June 4, 2007 at 6:08 PM #56568waiting hawkParticipantDang it, each time I see a Temecula post I’m hoping to win the bet.
I think Formerowner said it best. That is most likely the best spot. I see SO MANY mls postings in Temecula that say, “walk to the mall”. Most of them are BS unless you are really in shape. If commuting count in all gas within that monthly payment. I hear of people now paying $1000 a month in gas alone. I’m glad to see people not like wine country or De Luz.
From the movie Braveheart that weirdo said, “My Island” and Mel Gibson said, “your island?” Weirdo says- “Yeah its mine”.
ITS MINE!

June 4, 2007 at 10:31 PM #56632temeculaguyParticipantWW, where will you be working and at what times will you be driving? If you work in town it doesn’t matter, but if you will be hitting the freeway and going North or South during rush hour I’ll give the driving details.
All three have their pros and cons, what is it that you wan’t them and you to be close to? Harveston has the mall across the street and a new waterpark going in next door. Temeku is on a golf course, real close to the wineries and has a nice clubhouse. Depending on your location within Temeku you may be able to have dinner and drink at the golf course clubhouse and safely walk home (that one is for the parents, but I always thought that was cool). Redhawk/Morgan Hill/Vail Ranch/Wolf Creek are all adjacent to each other. 54,000 people in that zip code, not one apartment building, usually all of the top schools in the county are there but it’s usually a close race and to be honest they have such a miniscule number of “english learners” due to the lack of apartments so they have an unfair advantage.
The real advantage is Harveston is further North and the prices are coming down dramatically there. The prices should eventually fall in Temeku and Redhawk but it hasn’t really happened yet. If I were relocating to Temecula, the price and amenities of Harveston would seal the deal, check the deal Newguy got on another board, settle for nothing less than what he got. You will pay 100k more to live on the South side, I’ve lived on both sides of town and prefer the South but the price differential cannot be justified.
Ignore Hawk’s Jedi Mind Trick, Deluz and the wine country are awesome and everyone should buy land there.

Those places suck. Bugs, bugs, and more bugs. Commuting through the hills suck also. Stay off my island.
Why dont us Temecula folks take a day checking out places and areas? I got a company 4 door F-150 and work pays all gas. Let me know I’m game any day as I do nothing but ponder the next great thing and work from home.

June 4, 2007 at 11:37 PM #56646hipmattParticipantI think the best community in Temecula is Meadowview, its large lots, all custom homes, a huge meadow, equestrian area, clubhouse pool, for only $35 HOa, and low taxes, but.. ohhh the houses aren’t trendy enough for the sheeple, so they can but up th McMansions in Harveston, and miss out on the serenity.
I also think Vintage Hills is nice.
DeLuz, LaCresta, Wine Country, are beautiful, and worth the extra drive to escape the drama of metro Temecula….and the bugs, is that a serious complaint?? Can you say “city slicker”? I’ve been riding mx and mountain bikes in these hills for years, and never had an issue with bugs, and if there were a few bugs, they wouldn’t bother me. When I arrive at my destination at one of these locations, I feel like I’m hundreds of miles away from the whole mall/winchester Rd/margarita/ynez area, which is a good thing. It’s very quiet, mellow, and beautiful. If you like the outdoors, this is a great place, but pricey.
Harveston is OK, I think its overrated, high home prices, high taxes, high HOAs for a Lake and Park thats completely open to the public. The Lake uses smelly reclaimed water that’s not suitable for body contact, and the community is full of yuppies, and rich foreigners.(no, I’m not racist, but there is the communication barrier) Harveston IS ideally located, and is well maintained though.
