28 years with a company and they lock her out and fire her with no notice. You’re on your own out there folks so don’t kid yourself that loyalty to any employer will be reciprocated these days.
In support of the realty company, the agents are independent contractors. Contractor should have no expectations of long term work. That’s why they get paid more. Plus they have the flexibity to create their own work schedules and work how they see fit.
Our economy is resilient and flexible because of the employers’ abilities to expand and contract quickly depending on the business climate.
A case of the media sensationizing what is pretty much a non-event. Any decent Realtor can walk down the street to another office and move their business for the cost of new business cards. We are all independent contractors and the business is me not the company’s name that is displayed on the front of the building.
I see that they are independents. I do think its interesting though that it made it on the front page of the NC Times. Are they finally acknowledging the housing bubble? I feel sorry for that lady though. Being there 28 years as an assistant only to find out one day that she is laid off. That has got to be a big blow to her.
