Was over at Daiso and Zion Markets yesterday. Plenty of people wearing a surgical mask. And among a friend group, there was one parent that was admonished by other asian parents because her mother just came back from Hubei and was dropping offer grandkids at Ocean Air school for a few days, refuses to go see a doctor and refuses to go get tested by a doctor and continues to think she’s not sick and not contagious and doesn’t care. That’s also part of the problem. Some people who are at risk probably don’t care.
That said, US is probably going to be ok because it seems like we have the resources and medical facilities to deal with this, and the CDC seems to be on top of this and don’t have any motivations to cover things up or drag their feet… Neither do any of the asian nations, since they’ll probably just close their borders.
China will see the worst of it because as many of the CDC professionals already suspected, China’s local province tried to cover this up and didn’t respond to the issue quick enough and didn’t report these cases earlier to Beijing central in time for Beijing to send resources right away, and those people that already started to send out warnings from the local provinces were either arrested or suppressed and the state control media couldn’t report what was really happening, as some of the people locally there were already telling others over the phone or snapchat etc. So while Beijing responded rather quickly and drastically to quarantine the entire province, which is remarkable in itself, because it probably couldn’t have been done elsewhere, it’s probably too late. And only now is part of this truth being reported…
Here’s the english version of what happened earlier:
“China spent the crucial first days of the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak arresting people who posted about it online and threatening journalists”
Don’t even try to draw a comparison between China’s control on the media and the Trump administration. While Trump administration has been trying its best to suppress the truth and shame journalists as disgusting at it is, none of our journalists are taking it.
There’s a reason why among many asians particularly Chinese why they are taking precautions (to the point of borderline paranoia). No one trusts the Chinese government. People from China that are here don’t trust what the Chinese government is saying. Because there’s a precedence for the mistrust. Anyone that lived or grew up in China or stayed there for some time enough to understand how the system really works understands and knows this sort game…it’s tolerated because how else do you control a country with over 1 billion people. You can’t possibly give them all equal rights, and god forbid democracy. Majority of them wouldn’t be able to make a sound decision..At least that’s the party line.
Central authoritative government works great for public works when forcing an entire neighborhood to pack up and leave so that a high speed rail system can be put in a matter of weeks. Because if you live along the train tracks, you have no choice but to move. Sorry you lived there all your life, but Beijing needs a rail system put in, and all you whiners that are about to lose a home have no voice, and you can try to complain, but we’ll arrest you. Central authoritative government wont work if the local provinces aren’t singing the same tune and when professionals dealing with real people and real data can’t freely report what they are seeing…Well see this whenever there’s a outbreak like this.
