If you look at the current pool of democrat governors and senators who looks like a promising candidate. Booker of New Jersey, McCaskill of Missouri, Cuomo of New York, Tom Wolf of PA, McAuliffe of VA but he has ties to Clinton, Bloomberg as the rich guy with an agenda. The democrats seemed to be all in on Clinton so they are left with a bit of a vacuum right now. There’s obviously time and nobody knew who Obama was prior to the nomination process so who knows.
