This works to a point, but there need to be regulations that all states follow. First, states need to be held to the Constitution — no discrimination or police over-reach should be permitted by the Feds. Second, environmental laws are damned important. It wouldn’t work if one state pollutes another state’s main source of drinking water, for example.

DC needs to be strong in some respects to protect peoples’ rights in all states.
