ParticipantHow about taking the family to a resort where they have cooking classes? Your son might even enjoy a trip overseas. Many hotels have cooking classes. Just call around and check.

ParticipantI’ve used a personal chef named Kyle Wesendorf before. Her website is http://www.briocooks.com and she’s amazing. She comes to your house with her equipment and cooks whatever you want. Not sure how she’d be as a teacher, but she definitely knows what she’s doing.

GuestMy fiance graduated from culinary school a few years ago and is a chef in a French restaurant. He is good with kids, I’m sure he would be interested in something like this. Let me know how to contact you if you are still looking for someone. Good luck to your son!

I contacted Brio, and she charges $50/hr, 4 hr minimum, plus groceries. Kind of pricey.

ParticipantThe Sur La Table store in the Carlsbad Forum is a great option for kids’ classes and summer cooking camps, if you live close enough. They have a big commercial kitchen space in the back of the store and they offer weekend kids’ classes and even better, 5-day summer camps with themes like “Global Favorites” or “Delicious Desserts”…one of our kids attended a teen party/cooking class there and had a blast. The camp is a little pricey at $350 for all 5 days, but if you’re planning to do a summer camp anyway, this one would be a huge hit.
