Neither the court nor the president said exactly that. The difference is technical but significant. What the court said is that denying same-sex couples the same rights as straight couples is a violation of due process and equal protection clauses of the 14th amendment. Whether a polygamist marriage would be similarly protected is arguable. No inference can be drawn from this court decision.
