I just thought I’d tell you all about my experience in moving earlier today. I was moving our stuff from a rented apartment to a rented house (both in Carlsbad) when I came upon a couple Saturday morning AM talk shows dealing with financial planning. I remember shaking my head as these “financial planning” gurus kept plugging the virtues of buying a home, either via show guests or spot ads.
I think it was AM 600 KOGO that had Alan Nevin as a guest. This guy said something to the effect that he “couldn’t think of a better time than now to buy a home.” It seemed as though the host was a bit more conservative as he qualified Alan’s statement afterward by saying that if you are looking to buy and LIVE in a home, not speculate, then it’s a good time to buy. The propaganda continues unabated. At least we now know who butters AM 600’s bread.
It’s true that now is a BETTER time to buy then the same time last year. But still not a “good” time from what we know in these posts. Good or bad is all relative.
Your post brings up an important topic, though. We should all be cautious of the propaganda that will certainly be flooding in from both public and private entities. Just take a look at the front page of the Home section in the Union Tribune today. There is a story about the Cedar fire victims who finally rebuilt their homes but they missed the boom times and can’t sell at the crazy prices anymore. Watch how the story plays up the “Twice Victims” routine. Yes, poooor home sellers. Now that’s propaganda at its finest.
