I first noticed that when I moved to LA in 1988 and yes it’s common here now too.

At least we (or the traffic reporters) haven’t named our freeways yet like:

Santa Monica Freeway
Hollywood Freeway
Golden State Freeway
San Bernardino Freeway
San Diego Freeway
Long Beach Freeway
Pasadena Freeway
