All comments are pretty true. Just depends on what you want to pay for…Most people who want to move to TX don’t already have a place here or have a place next to the beach that they can afford to do those weekly walks/etc…For people who want to have more space/a home, there’s no question that the size/space of house you get for the same 500k in TX is going to be much bigger than San Diego proper…However, you could also live in the outskirts of SD far east, etc for pretty cheap too. Course, you still have to deal with some negatives like state income tax so if you are a high earner, that may sting…I know some consulting and doctors who pull close to a mil a year so moving to TX alone saves over 100k in income tax. Property tax, though higher doesn’t catch up to that difference.
Bottom line is it depends on your situation like most things in life.
For a homebody like me, nice weather/sun/etc/etc is a waste. I’d be just as happy in a cramped studio in front of a computer playing a video game all day…while it rains outside constantly.
