I think there is a huge difference here between legal immigration and illegal occupation. And what it boils to is…cost….There is a huge difference imho between folks here on H1-B and folks here entering illegally.
The former is paying taxes and his/her share for being in this country…The later is able to enjoy social benefits in the country without paying for it… And without the ability to curtail the later, more people will seek to get things that they don’t have to pay for…[/quote]
Illegal immigration is a symptom of a much larger problem. For example, when Mexican women were pushing out 7 kids each, the natural result was folks heading north. The only way back in those days to stop the flow would have been a Berlin Wall equivalent from the Rio Grande to the Pacific. But there was no political will to build that wall because the government realized the US was benefiting from the cheap labor, countless Republican administrations tuned a blind eye to the illegal flow of labor, why? Because the economy was expanding and the lowest level jobs still need filling. Why not create some type of guest worker program? Because illegals can be exploited more easily.
Now the demographics is changing. Mexican women are only pushing out 2.3 kids each. They are essentially reaching even replacement rate. What is happening to the flow, we see significant slow down. Plus we are in the middle of great depression 2.0 (masked as just another recession due to government interventions), not only are there less people crossing over, a lot are actually leaving. In fact, if you personally ask the border patrol agents, most of their job now is in the realm of catching drug smugglers.
So flu, the problem is being resolved right in front of our eyes! The numbers are right there in the links I provided. Obama can pat himself on the back. But the reality is simply with less babies down there, and less wealth up here, there’s no need to come her any more. So if this century old problem is getting fixed as we speak, why is this still an invasion? Because we are not doing well economically and the talk radio folks need somebody to blame.
The overwhelming number of illegals are not enjoying social benefits, outside of schooling and school lunches. I’m all for reducing health and social benefits to help trim the over bloated government budget, trimming the over bloated military, pension reform, military benefits reform, end the Bush tax cuts, end farm subsidies, on and on. There’s a lot of issues to be addressed.
I do see a major problem looming in 20 years. I’m very serious about this. We will have a shortage of strawberry pickers. And no, the native borns would be too lazy. Who will we find to do this work after Mexico’s birth rate flat lines at 2 per woman. Guest worker program to bring in central Americans?
