    One of the realtors on this board was describing how this has been the best year yet…could it be that he is having his clients bury statues of St. Joseph in the front yard?!?!?

    Hehehe, this is not new, this has been going on fro years, my mom and my moms cousin are very strong minded about this, the have countless stories about it. SHe put one in our house(5 years ago back east) and we sold in 1 month versus the typcial 3-6 months the market was doing, she says it was because the st. joseph statue, I say I just priced it right 🙂

    burger007, did you remove the statue after you sold your house, or did you leave it buried there?  

    I guess it can't hurt.   I beleive in Feng Shui to harmonize my house and life (so does Donald Trump and many architects).  It can be seen as quackery but what's the harm if done in good fun?

    I guess the problem I have with this nonsense is the belief these sellers must have that God, himself, is going to help them stick it to another “greater fool”. Complete and utter, f*king nonsense.

    Pretty damn funny, though!

    Ok guys – TRUE STORY…

    So I had a client last year and she had a condo down in the South Bay right off of Sweetwater Road. At first she priced it a bit to high…. no activity… then she priced it in line with comps… sparse activity for about 7 weeks… maybe 1 person every week… just shoppers… she buried one of these statues… she even told me about it and I kind of laughed a bit…

    so 3 days later she got a full price offer…

    I don’t believe in any of this stuff but I can honestly say she did it and it worked.

    It “works” for the same reason that home remedies work: unless you die, you are going to get well sooner or later, and most people attribute their recovery to whatever latest remedy they tried.

    So, unless we run some randomized, controlled experiments, I’d say that the statues’ supposed effects are nothing but the placebo effect at play. But this thread is certainly funny to read!

    Yah, after it closed we dug it back up. My wife believes in harmonizing the house too, so we had a fun time trying to find a house with that right aurora when we were looking a while back(translation:many open houses we went too, too many, many weekends lost). But hey, whatever the wife wants, makes for a peaceful household i have learned…….to an extent.

    On a side note:
    I was at a catholic store here in san diego trying to get a St Joseph statue for a friend’s kid who was getting confirmed(typically you pick a saint when you get confirmed), but anyways, I went there and the first thing she asked after looking for a St. Joseph statue was”Are you a realtor and/or are you trying to sell your house, we are sold out and they are back ordered since a bucnh of realtors and/or people selling their house buy these a lot in the spring time” .

    Long story short, it took me 2 weeks to get the statue and all the shipments they had were all accounted for and back ordered again. Ding Ding: Business opportunity!!!!

    I heard a rumor that Jim McElroy and Philip Paulson have st joseph statues buried in the front yards of their homes from previous owners.

    Its been going on for many many years, long before the housing run of the last few years. Perfectly harmless.

    I’m about to let you all in on a little secret…here’s how WE sold our two houses. (please don’t let the word get out, though) shhh…

    We priced them right in the first place. Both of them sold within 5 days of listing and they both sold as a result of the first and only open houses we held.

    No statues, no prayer, no nothing…wait a minute…I guess sacrificing the baby sheep on the granite countertops and then drinking the blood did have something to do with it! Oops, sorry- I forgot…sacrificing small barnyard animals was what helped us sell our houses.

    Perfectly harmless.
