Typically, the free sites have somewhat limited access to listings other than active and sold (they are not the actual MLS).
Sometimes properties are intentionally blocked from public sites (at the suggestion of sellers, tenants, or agents) even though it is on the MLS.
However usually, if a property is invisible, it is because it is withdrawn.
That blocks it from virtually everybody.
Withdrawn is a status that means there is an active listing agreement but some body (agent, seller, tenant) does not want it shown as active on the MLS.
Very common in rental properties.
Not very common in shorts (as far as I have seen).

It is possible that it is fraudulent (in the real meaning, not CAR’s crazy person version) but your description does not give enough information to glean that.
